The Economic Analysis of the Costs and Revenues of Irrigated Tobacco Burley Producing in the Syrian Coast: A Case Study of the 2023–2024 Agricultural Season

The research aimed to conduct an economic analysis of the costs and revenues of producing the irrigated tobacco crop (Burley variety) in the Syrian coast, in addition to studying and analyzing the economic indicators related to the economic efficiency of the 2023-2024 agricultural season. The primary data were collected through a survey targeting a sample of 337 irrigated Burley tobacco farmers, the size of which was calculated according to the Stevenson- Thompson equation. The results showed that the average net annual profit achieved from a hectare planted with irrigated Burley tobacco was approximately US$3,526.6/hectare, while the profitability ratio relative to production costs was 83.5%, which is considered a very good indicator in the field of agricultural investment, as the profit rate is equivalent to US$83 for every US$100 invested annually. The results also showed that the economic efficiency index was 1.83, which is greater than one, indicating the efficiency of the utilization of fixed and variable capital and the feasibility of producing irrigated Burley tobacco on the Syrian coast. The Research concluded that there is a need to increase attention to the cultivation of irrigated Burley tobacco, while encouraging and motivating farmers to increase the areas planted with this crop, given the economic savings it provides to rural families, the diversification of income sources, and the improvement of their standard of living.
